This month, we celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Prostestant Reformation. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed hsi 95 theses to the door in Wittenberg, Germay sparking the fire that would later be known as the Great Reformation. Emerging out of this came five foundational truths that we continue to believe and clebrate - they are known as the 5 Solas.
- Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone)
- Solus Christus (Christ Alone)
- Sola Gratia (Grace Alone)
- Sola Fide (Faith Alone)
- Soli Deo Gloria (To God Alone be the Glory)
Here is a 5 day bible reading plan from Crossway that points us to these great truths and helps us see both the theological and historical significance of the 5 Solas (click here for the reading plan)
Martin Luther, a long with so many other Reformers, recovered these biblical truths that had been misplaced by the Church igniting a fire that continues to burns brightly in the hearts of God's people even to this day. And as they reflected on the glories of God and the Gospel they wrote some of the most beautiful hymns - songs that we contiue to sing today. Here is one written by Martin Luther called "A Might Fortress Is Our God" (Click here to listen)
Grace & Peace be with you!
