Are we crazy? Maybe! We are not even a year old, as a church plant, and we give monthly financial support to a church plant. Why would we do such a radical thing when we, as a church plant, are not yet self-supporting? Becasue we are a part of the Kingdom of God and our desire is to see "the knowledge of the glory of God fill the earth like the waters cover the sea" (Habakkuk 2:14). We believe this happens on three levels, at the same time: Disciples making disicples, missional communities multiplying missional communities, and churches planting churches.
One church plant that we are helping to support is Centerpoint Church in Portland, Maine. We are excited to partner with our friends for the advancement of the gospel and the making of disciples. According to the Barna Group, Portland is the fourth most unchruched city in the United States. The task may feel daughting but the mission of God cannot fail becasue Jesus will not fail, "I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18).
Ben Thornton is the lead chruch planter. His wife, Jessica, recently wrote this on her Instagram:
"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us (Ephesians 3:20). Ben and I stand in awe of what God is doing not only in our own personal lives but also the lives of those around us. [We] are excited to be a part of the work He is doing in Portland."
They will be moving from Georgia to Portland, Maine in September. Pray for the work God will do through them. Watch thier recent Vision Trip video and be encouraged:
